The modern-day millennial lives in a world of subscriptions, online shopping, and digital transactions. The conventional mobile banking apps fail to provide a comprehensive solution that helps these users track their spending habits and optimize their financial management. Point Card recognized this gap and envisioned a product that bridges it. The objective of this redesign was to align the app's design and features with the unique needs of the millennial user base.
Traditional banking apps lack significant features that resonate with millennials' lifestyle and spending patterns. They are unable to track and categorize spending on different platforms and subscriptions, creating a void for a tool that allows millennials to manage their finances better. In addition, there is a missing link to seamlessly earn and redeem points like in a credit card system.
To create a solution that effectively addresses the user's needs, I followed a four-stage design process: Understand: I started by understanding the user's needs, the market, and the Point Card business model. This involved conducting interviews with potential users to get a clear picture of their pain points with current banking apps, what they expected in a digital banking experience, and how they would like to track their spending and manage their finances. Define: I defined the problem clearly - "Design an intuitive, user-friendly banking app that not only allows users to manage their finances effectively but also incentivizes their spending by earning points for rewards." Ideate: In this stage, I generated a variety of ideas based on the problem definition. I came up with potential features that the app could have such as spending categorization, financial goal tracking, notification alerts for subscription charges, points tracking, and reward redemption. Prototype & Test: I then translated these ideas into sketches and wireframes for the app.
The redesigned Point Card app now addresses the needs of the modern millennial user. Its features allow users to track their spending habits and manage subscriptions effectively, promoting healthy financial habits. Moreover, it allows users to earn and redeem points just like a credit card, making the banking experience rewarding. The dashboard has a visual representation of spending patterns, helping users understand where their money is going. The subscription management feature allows users to keep tabs on their various digital subscriptions, ensuring they don't lose track. The reward points system is intuitive and easy to use, with clear instructions on how to earn and redeem points. In conclusion, the Point Card mobile app redesign exemplifies a blend of user-friendly design and necessary features, meeting the demands of millennials for a comprehensive and rewarding banking experience. By ensuring that user needs were at the core of the design process, Point Card was able to deliver a solution that enhances the financial lives of its users while differentiating itself in the crowded fintech market. The outcome is a product that combines the convenience of digital banking, the thrill of earning rewards, and the ability to maintain financial health, making Point Card a true millennial's financial partner.
